Graduating from FMV in 2018, Catherine began her career at the Louiseville Veterinary Hospital in the large animal sector. After nearly a year of practice, she decided to shift her career toward small animals at the same location, in order to regain the teamwork she cherished so much. During this period of great change, Catherine's love for surgery grew stronger every day. She gradually realized that what motivated her each morning was simply the opportunity to combine her greatest passions: medicine and art. In 2021, she made another bold decision—to become self-employed. This allowed her to fulfill her dream of doing only what she loves while also embracing the opportunity to meet wonderful teams along the way.

HOW IT WORKS
For whom?
The locum surgery and dentistry service is available exclusively to veterinary clinics and allows them to offer additional time slots to their clients for procedures under general anesthesia.
Please note that this service is provided by a general practitioner veterinarian with a special interest in surgery and dentistry. It is not a specialized service. To find out which procedures can be performed and to get an estimate of the time required for an uncommon procedure, please contact Dr. Tourigny directly.
Why?
Whether it's because you're short on time to catch up on a 3-month-long waiting list or you're uncomfortable performing certain procedures, having external help in surgery and/or dentistry can be highly beneficial. This assistance can be temporary (e.g., a few days here and there during the year) or cyclic (e.g., 2 days per week for 6 months), depending on your needs.
How?
Reservations are made on a daily basis and for a time slot predetermined by both parties. Simply fill out the form, and Dr. Tourigny will contact you. The clinic's expectations and needs will then be discussed.
Once everything is organized, the day unfolds just like your regular surgery days: the animal, which has been previously examined, is welcomed, fasting, at the clinic by a technician, then examined by Dr. Tourigny for a pre-op check-up, and the procedure takes place as planned, if the pre-op examination meets expectations on that day. If there is a surprise during the pre-op exam, the client will be contacted by Dr. Tourigny to confirm whether the plan remains the same or needs to be adjusted.
Note: It is recommended to perform bloodwork, if planned, a few days before the procedure to avoid cancellations on the day of the procedure.
How much?
Fees are calculated in two parts: travel and hourly rate. The travel fee is a fixed rate based on the mileage from the departure point to the clinic, while the hourly rate is determined in advance between both parties and varies according to the clinic's needs and location
